Dr. Jonathan Den Hartog is Professor of History and Chair of the History Department at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. A scholar of American religion and politics, he is the author of Patriotism and Piety: Federalist Politics and Religious Struggle in the New American Nation (University of Virginia Press, 2015) and a coeditor, with Carl Esbeck, of Disestablishment and Religious Dissent: Church-State Relations in the American States, 1776–1833 (University of Missouri Press, 2019).
